LipiFlow Treatment

What to Expect During the Procedure

After an initial anesthetic eye drop, the doctor will insert the single-use sterile activators under and over the eyelids. This step is simple and discomfort is minimal. The LipiFlow system heats the glands and provides an effective eyelid massage to unblock the obstructed Meibomian Glands. This 12-minute procedure is done while the patient relaxes in the chair and enjoys a therapeutic eyelid massage.

What to Expect After the Procedure

Results vary by patient and depend on the severity of Meibomian Gland Disease (MGD). Dry Eye Disease is a multifactorial disease and although we are treating the underlying cause of Dry Eye Disease by targeting MGD, there may be other factors involved. Therefore, dry eye symptoms may not fully improve and may require other dry eye treatment options such as Intense Pulsed Light Therapy.
